Just a few days can make all the difference
A few days in a place that brings perspective, echoes peace in a world that is frenetic.
The sound of cow bells and the gentle running of mountain water near by, is most of the time all I hear and the views that after 33 years are still to me as breath taking now as if seeing them for the first time. Here to do some short videos and let people know about my new membership program, I have also enjoyed the thrill of Tour de France going only a few hundreds yards from the chalet door.
In 1989 I acquired my first property in this gem of a place, La Clusaz. Very young and naïve but full of determination and excitement, I challenged people that got in my way, as I navigated the deal with no knowledge or support.
It’s been 33 years of adventure, where for the first 5 years a ski company had full use of it in the winter and where for the first 15 years holidays ran for disabled children in a handful of the summer weeks.
Here now to check how Chalet Sophia is looking, I am struck by the place in which she sits.
It’s been a wonderful couple of days with 2 more yet to come. It seems that only a broken kitchen cupboard door and a shower door that is balancing precariously have found their way onto the list of items to get fixed. I am sure the list will grow in the next 2 days as we set about to order wood for the winter season, get the chimney swept, check the electrics and plumbing and make sure all those involved with keeping it ticking over, during the winter season are happy with their roles and committed to doing them.
Maintenance has been a key factor in generating an income from Chalet Sophia and she is looking wonderful even though the footfall over the last 33 years has been thousands.
As always I will feel a slight tug as I leave, but will return again soon and feel the same all over again.
